Nancy Thym, born in Auburn, California,Currently residing in Germany, is one of Germany’s leading storytellers, harpists, and singers. She masterfully combines harp music, song, and storytelling to create an enchanting experience for her audience.
She studied Theater, Dance, and Anthropology at UC Berkeley and earned a Master’s degree in Folklore from UCLA. Through fieldwork in Scotland and Ireland, she explored traditional music and narratives, focusing on medieval and Scottish ballads and the role of the harp in storytelling.
Nancy has won multiple awards in California, including first prizes at the Santa Rosa Highland Games (1984, 1987) and the Golden Gate Scottish and Irish Festival (1987). She has also performed medieval harps in productions for the Bavarian State Theater and other stages.
As a regular lecturer at the Historical Harp Conference in Amherst, Massachusetts, she supports harp enthusiasts worldwide through the Museum and Archive for Harp History in Freising, Germany. She has presented and performed at international events such as the World Harp Congresses in Paris, Copenhagen, and Prague.
Nancy also explores unique styles, combining harp with Rock & Roll and Blues. She has published extensively on harp history, released three recordings, and continues to inspire audiences worldwide.
